The 8th Era – A few formal statements

GSA-Gold

In light of recent events, a few formal statements must be made. There’s alot to cover, and I’m going to do my best inform of these changes.

As of August 27th, 2017 Jeep has stepped down as the leader of GSA and retired, for personal reasons, and has passed leadership down to me. Him, and many other have put their faith into me, and I intend to take this position proudly and to not let anyone down. But I can’t do this alone. Everyone needs to contribute to GSA, and luckily I have support in this. But everyone has a part to play, and by their very nature, the changes we need to make require all of us to do our part.

Activity has dwindled for years now, and truly has been since the death of EKAT and a wide spread loss of interest and excitement. While we can’t quite return to how things were, we can get our community back up to a point of excitement and activity, keeping new members engaged in activity and forming the kinds of bonds we did when we were new to this community.

Ultimately our goal is to get back that golden part of those days. I’ve been with GSA for years now, starting from the bottom, and that experience has formed unshakable bonds between our members. The best thing we can do is to provide that kind of community again for our newcomers.

A few changes needed to be made. I’ll state some of what has been done so far, and some of what we still need. This is not necessarily complete, simply for practicality, and that alot must still be considered.

The rules page has been updated, but we still need to do more. Ultimately our laws have become too loose to serve as a proper system in many cases, and while this was intended in older reforms, it has failed. While we should not crowd the page with countless laws specific to a game we no longer play or to systems we no longer use, we do need to know a defined and precise time to take action when needed, and how to deal with issues.

Menus have been reorganized, and close to final. More changes will likely be made, though. Priority has been placed on more important pages, and less demanding info has been moved back into archives.

The banned list has had some fixed. Old entries unlawfully removed were restored, and in light of recent events some new have been added.

The staff is being worked on, revised and put together to work as a new team. Together, we’ll be making the changes we need, and taking feedback from all the community. I’m working to make sure all of our staff are active and cooperating for the better of GSA. A more official announcement will be made, once I have assembled the team fully.

And as a formal declaration, for the case of history being recorded, I declare now that July of 2017 is the start of the 8th era of GSA history.

It was then that we truly started improving the clan and aiming to make us a better community. With the changes of this week, this turn of history is cemented.

Additionally, Jeep has most certainly earned an immortal place on the wall of fame for his service as one of the best leaders GSA has seen in all it’s history.

If anyone would like to dispute the changes made, please take it up with me. We can all make this work, and feedback is important.

Hoping to serve you well ~

Administration shakeup. [Expired]

This is a post where the people will choose whether or not to oust current member of the Administration team. Please comment below with a “+” to keep the desired person in their current office, or a “-” to oust them in favor of someone new. Do this for every person listed, not just one or two. Those who are ousted will likely be made moderators. Also, I will moderate this post. So if everyone else could let it be so that there’s no confusion or double counted posts, that would be much appreciated.

Some Site Updates

Since I reacquired my status as Site Editor on the website after I once again rejoined the clan. I have decided to go and make some changes and other fixes on the website. This site was almost in a kinda sad state when I saw the contents, so I go on ahead and clean up as much of the pages as possible. Here are the changes listed below.

  • Fixed the urls for some of the pages such as the Members and Ranks pages.
  • Removed [+] on pages containing multiple subpages since they are no longer needed.
  • Removed some of the table of contents that are now longer available or public on the GSA website. Added ones that weren’t listed on the contents.
  • Created a new Members List page, the old one was absolutely messy and hard to follow and keep track of the lists, so a draft became a better alternative. As a result, I have privatized the old page which only admins and editors can access.
  • Updated Widgets
  • Fixed GSA News Page Link Directory
  • Added new Members List

Unfortunately new WordPress theme requires widgets to get pages to be visible on the website and only Administrators can adjust that, meaning I can’t make the new Members List public since I am only an editor. However, I can still link the page since it is already published

@Admins if possible, I request temporary Admin rights to adjust the widgets and also attempt to fix the GSA News page directory too if I get the site position for a while.

Anyways, here is the link to the new updated list

If your name is not listed, comment below. And also please list what platforms do you play on? Whether it’d be Xbox, Playstation or Steam, it is recommended, if you use any of these platforms.

UPDATE – The new official Members List has been added. Replacing the old one. It is now properly accessible.

Net Neutrality and You

Today is the International Day of Action for Net Neutrality, hence this post.

What is net neutrality?

Net neutrality is the idea that all data should be treated equally by ISPs, no matter the source. This means that all data is delivered to you in the most efficient way possible without unnecessary delays or paywalls.

How does it affect me?

Without net neutrality rules, companies seeking a profit may implement all sorts of rules restricting or slowing access to content that they please. These may include:

  • Imposing a fee upon websites, which if not paid would result in reduced speeds.
  • Overall reduced access to more sources of information and entertainment, further consolidating and homogenizing the Internet.
  • Possible censorship of information if deemed controversial or damaging to business interests.
  • BitTorrent throttling en-masse; goodbye piracy!

Who is involved in the fight for net neutrality?

Many of your favorite companies and people are involved in the fight to keep net neutrality as law.

  • Mozilla (Firefox)
  • Twitter
  • Twitch
  • Netflix
  • Tim Berners-Lee (the creator of the Web)
  • Netflix
  • OkCupid
  • College Humor
  • Vimeo
  • Google
  • Airbnb
  • Reddit
  • Amazon
  • Facebook
  • And of course, Pzk M!

What can I do to help keep net neutrality?

Write a letter to the FCC supporting net neutrality. Click this link to do so. Thanks for participating!

Site updates 2017

As you can already see, the GSA site has been updated. We have changed the format from our old piano black, after so many years so as to work on a new, more modern look. Sniper and I have been working on a few things, and soon more updated pages will be coming.

Please bear in mind, the new fonts and the new theme may have made formatting on some pages a little different than before, so some stuff may be out of place. We’ll be going over every page and updating everything.

Some pages may soon be thinned out, removed, heavily changed, and possibly merged with other pages.

~ I’ll keep you updated.

Updated laws page + Updated laws & regs

Halo5-GSA

I was looking over the laws page, and it came to my attention that it needed a few touch ups. I did a general check for any errors and fixed any small thing I found, and also made some additions.

As follows is the previous state of the page; (Note that only text color is changed. Notes will be present.)

Game night schedule + New pages

Alright, first up, we now have two new pages added to the site, under Database.

Official GSA Competition

and

Hall of Champions

Check em’ out. They’re still new of course, and the leader boards aren’t quite filled out… Or balanced very well, yet. But, it’s best to get it started.

Now, as for the upcoming game nights.

On February 17th, we’ll be hosting a big game night, and partnering with Noune’s KTSC again. If you’re new, that means that for every player who joins us, 1$ will be donated to help fight lung cancer. Last time, we raised 129$, but I’m hoping we can do even better this Friday.

Our current gamenight schedule, also posted at the Official GSA Competition page:

February 17th: GSA Gamenight, cooperating with KTSC event.

March 3rd: GSA Gamenight.

March 10th: GSA Gamenight.

March 17th: GSA Gamenight.

March 24th: GSA Gamenight.

Ustopable-GP

Also, on the 17th, we’ll be testing out using playlists. Unless other maps are suggested, we’ll be holding quick votes on which map to play next for each round, from a pre-selected list. This should help to keep things moving quickly, which will solve issues of indecisiveness we’ve had previously.

The playlist for February 17th is as follows:

Round 1:
Doomwrath-Rapidfire
K2shape-tunnels
Jordanstrob2-Shotgun_War

Round 2:
Ashgabat-RailWars
Noir Line-Infection
Jonb7-DM2

Round 3:
Raffine-UrbanWar
Cahir-Half_Life
Reject-PoH

Round 4:
Baraka-Survive
Nyove-Rocket
Jonb7-DM1

Round 5:
TehSwordNinja-Realwar_Mp
Cahir-Half_Life
Neutral-i04

Round 6:
Silent Phoenix-OS
Ashgabat-RailWars
Ustopable-GP

Round 7:
ChemicalX-Sniper
Silent Phoenix-OS
Skound-Undead

If we go for more than 7 rounds, we’ll probably go through them again, placing new votes.

Of course, if anyone has maps to suggest, they’ll be added to the vote for the round.

Anyways, I hope to see you all there on the 17th.

Game night + Announcements + Monty Oum

Just a quick post here, to give everyone an update.

First of all, game night is of course next Friday. I’m happy to announce that we will be supporting Noune’s project, Kill to Stop Cancer. For every player who joins us, the NIR will donate 1$ to help fight lung cancer.

Also, as many of you have probably noticed, the GSA site has been updated a bit. Updates will continue for the next few days, and we hope to shape things up a little better. Have a look around, and see what’s new, but remember that things aren’t finished yet.

Some posts may be made soon regarding changes to policy. I’ll get back to you about those changes, hopefully soon.

February first.

Two years ago, today, marks the loss of the visionary, Monty Oum. Well known for his work with Rooster Teeth, particularly on Red vs Blue and RWBY, he was an inspiration to many, through his creativity, work ethics, and attitude.

Today, he wishes to inspire you, too. February first marks a day that everyone should be inspired- Go and begin working on something you’ve always hoped to create. Write the first page of your own story. This is the legacy he would have wanted to leave- To continue to inspire the great creativity in people.

1981-2015.

Rest well, and may you continue to inspire.

That’s all for now.

~I hope to see you all soon.

History of GSA

GSA has a truly long and varied history. We have now persisted for six years, and have had hundreds of people join our clan and leave. Over the years, dozens of those people influenced our history and shaped us into the clan that we are today. We might look back and laugh at certain melodramatic moments, but we cannot deny that those occurred, and we must document them in one permanent location for future members of GSA to see. In order to do this, I have decided to create a comprehensive record of GSA’s history, whose process will be divided into three steps:

Step One: Gathering the History

This is to be done with the help of our current membership and also past membership. No one person, however long they have been in the clan, can possibly remember all of the things that have occurred in it, so this is necessarily a group effort. If you have any good facts that may be obscure, please post them in the comments below.

Sadly, many of our old websites have been lost to time, but I managed to save a few and compile them into what I call the “GSA Archive”. I will look through this archive and use it for this compilation.

Step Two: Writing the History

While the facts alone are interesting, to an outside observer they are confusing. A lot of explanatory writing will have to be done in order  for the work to be coherent to members with no knowledge of our history.

Step Three: Publishing the History

The history will be split up into seven eras (subject to change) based on the evidence I currently have. Each era will be split up into separate entries and will be published both on the main page and on its own History page. You are welcome to criticize them as they are published and amendments will be made accordingly.

To conclude,

GSA deserves a record of its history not just for its future members, but also for its past members who spent so much time trying to improve their clan. It would be a tragedy if all of their efforts went unrecognized and forgotten. I hope that this will suffice.

The Plan.

The plan as it stands, is as follows:

1. Go through the site and renovate it. Removing anything that is strictly pb2 roleplay based. Including renovation of the laws and the removal of laws that will no longer apply to us in our new expansion.

2. Attempt to expand into as many gaming communities as possible without over-exerting ourselves. This means we play games together on steam, in-browser, and even on console. Anything and everything.

3. Divide the members list into 3 sub categories, those of us whom play In-browser, the ones who play console, and the ones who play the steam/download games. (Keep in mind that the Administrators have authority over all of these groups, even if they don’t play in that group very often. If you’re in GSA, then you are subject to GSA government.)

Please give feedback. If insufficient complaints are received, then this will become set in stone.
